Ok. I'm finally... *gulp*... submitting something. The original assignment in class was to create something similar to Duhrer's Melancholia, but our own version. So the guy in the picture's me. And um...
Everything on there means something. Nothing is just there to look pretty.
I'll post an explanation, but maybe later. I'll see if I actually get any comments. I promise I'll comment back and check out your gallery.
Oh yeah, and its colored pencil, scanned into the computer and messed with digitally. And yes, that thing around my wrist is black string, and it has a story to it. Hope ya like.
I'm surprised so few people have commented on this... It does seem like I'm looking at everything through some kind of fog, mentally- in the respect that I understand that something deeper than the visible is going on, but it's hard to place exactly what that is. All in all, it's an effect that's difficult to pull off convincingly, and you've done it quite well.
its realistic...and yet...not...and i really like that fact that the wings on the wall...at least they look like they are on the wall...appear to be coming from the figures back as well...
everything else in it, the flowers, bike, clock, star...seem somewhat out of place...and yet at the same time...belong there...this piece is making me think too much...maybe thats what i like most about it...
yeah, i know lol. but thats the way it came out on the computer. it sounds like an excuse kind of, but on my original colored pencil version, the character isn't so orangey but looks more natural. this is the edited version, after i made the whole thing darker. maybe i'll post the original.
I was trying to figure out what medium it was before I actually read the description. I knew some of it had to be digital, but the color pencil threw me off, its vert well done, nice control. Looking forward to an explanation to some of these items, like the time on the clock, and the wings.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.

This is a wonderful piece of art. I especially love the cracks in the walls, the clock and the exit sign. The bicycle is very well done as well.
Yes, do post an explanation! I'm interested in the meanings behind all that symbolism.
Lovely work!
